Certification

The valuable benefit of the programme is the chance to become part of a unique directors professional network consisting of individuals with a distinctive interest and expertise in corporate governance and board functioning.

  • Whilst candidates may be allowed exemptions from the relevant Certificate training course (except RDB), they will always be required to pass the examination.

  • Candidates wishing to undertake the exam only will be provided with a basic package of examination preparation material, e.g. the learning outcomes for the course and an examination overview. However, a more extensive package of preparation materials, e.g. the course manual, practice examination questions and access to learning resources, will only be available to candidates that participate in the training course.

  • Exempted candidates will be allowed two attempts at the relevant Certificate examination. However, if they fail twice, they will subsequently be required to attend the IoD training course prior to re-sitting the examination.

Examinations

  • IoD awards, certificate and diploma level qualifications are internationally recognised and credit rated under the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). Exams are flexible and can be taken at various dates throughout the year at a time that works best for you. They are completed using a computer-based testing system and are remotely invigilated allowing you to choose when and where you take them.
  • You will need to pass an exam at the end of each certificate module. Each exam is made up of 16 multiple choice questions and lasts 45 minutes. You’ll receive your results within four weeks.
